This is a 2nd variation Type 90 triple barreled 38mm flare signal pistol made by Kayaba Kogyo for the Imperial Japanese Navy. A total of only 5,300 Type 90 triple barreled flare pistols were produced, and few survive. This one is a 2nd variation of which about 3,400 were produced. The firing/cocking mechanism and selector lever function nearly perfectly. Turning the cocking lever counterclockwise cocks all three barrels. The position of the selector lever determines which barrel fires when the trigger is pulled. The finish is in good shape. It is still shiny and hasn’t been worn off anywhere. This is an extremely rare, hard to find gun: with only some 5000 produced
