Here's a Springfield Armory M1 Garand rifle that was original manufactured toward the end of WWII in about May, 1945. It's a fairly typical rifle that was overhauled after the war and has a combination of wartime and post-war components. The Springfield barrel is dated September, 1966; the bolt is IHC marked; the gas cylinder is pre-1942; the Springfield "77" op rod is very late production from the 6-million serial range; Trigger Housing/Hammer/Safety all date to mid-WWII. Overall condition is good although the rifle does show wear. The finish on the receiver is thin and appears buffed to bright metal in some spots. The stainless gas cylinder is typically silver with its finish gone. There is no significant rust or pitting. There is a small, hard-to-see import marking on the right side of the barrel. The stock shows wear including a couple of small gouges that have been filled as well as strips of wood added along both sides near the bottom of the magazine area to improve trigger housing to lock-up. The right side of the butt is marked "AA/58954". The handguards have been sanded and it appears they have some varnish added to them. This rifle appears to be in good working order although the rear sight windage knob is stiff and difficult to operate by hand. The bore shows strong rifling that is slightly frosted and has a Throat Erosion of about 2.8 and a Muzzle Erosion of about 3.0. It comes with an aftermarket sling. Not perfect, but a perfectly serviceable weapon.
